The Dunlop D208 is a good tyre when new it has loads of feel and gives plenty of feedback but my 1200 bandit it eating them 2 sets on the rear under 4000 miles front is dead now can't fault the tyre just the wear and it was easily taken to the edge without much effort which is a bit scary on a bandit time for a change I think - ContiSports.
Michelin Pilot Sport DO NOT suit the Suzuki AN 650 Burgman:-
REASONS:
Although straight line stability is good at all speeds cornering ability is lacking.
The bike wants to carry on in a straight line similar to understeer in a car. A counter steer imput is required to persuade the bike to initialise a turn. I realise that counter steer imput is normal in the cornering dynamics of a motorcycle but the rider is not normally aware of the fact that he is doing it.
The bike feels unstable in left and right hand turns and particularly on poor surfaces where the effect is amplified.
The tyre pressures are set at those recommended by Michelin (they reccommend the same pressures for all load conditions).
I have carried out numerous tests with different pressures and with varying rear suspension pre load settings - the same cornering instability is maintained.
The tyres have been fitted correctly and all other aspects relating to the bike and its handling capabilities have been checked.
I have approximately 40 years of motorcycling experience (including time spent as a motorcycle riding instructor) on a range of machinery and I would like to think that I am in a position to make a considered judgement.
The original equipment Bridgestones are the tyres approved by Suzuki, and for good reason.
I am not alone in this opinion as I have read comment from AN650 riders world wide and they have experienced the same problem.
I have contacted Michelin direct and they say that they are unaware of any problem with this tyre and have not received any complaints from other users. Well, they have received other complaints but will not acknowledge it.
As far as I am aware the Michelin Pilot Sport for the AN650 has not been approved for use by the Department for Transportation in North
America due to stability issues.
I used Bridgestones for the first 20000 KM with no problems and I shall be going back to them as soon as possible.
Be warned - stay with Bridgestone, there is a reason why they were on there in the first place.
Stay safe,
Regards
