YAMAHA XT 600 Z I've mostly used my tenere for commuting (on tarmac) I started out with a set of avon distanzia because i got them cheap.

It is a road tyre and the grip is adequite - enough that my center stand has been in the ground on both sides. But any tyre could probaly do that on dry tarmac. I know from reviews that the wet performance is not up to the best but i don't usually press it to the limit on wet roads - to many cars arround ... But the distanzia last long - The first set i replaced after 20000km and the second after 18000km. I've tried it on a wet and muddy forest road and a cross track - it packs very quickly and cost me some scratches and a blinker.

The i fitted a pair of mitas e-07 - it is a bit more open and can be used a bit more on "green lanes". It lasted 15000km

I also own a xtz750 and had continenal tkc 80 on that the last time so now i've also ordered tkc80 for the small tenere - I think that it is a good compromise for on/offroad use and stille provide long mileage.

To get better ofroad grip i'll ned to sacrifce grip on tarmac and more than 90% of my riding is commuting on tarmac ..
