NEW PIRELLI SLICK MOTORRADREIFEN - DIABLO SUPERBIKE PRO
24.01.2010

NEW PIRELLI SLICK MOTORRADREIFEN - DIABLO SUPERBIKE PRO

January 2010 – Pirelli announces the immediate availability of the new race-replica slick Diablo Superbike PRO on occasion of the pre-season World Superbike tests in Portimão, Portugal.  The new tyre represents a natural link for end users to the professional racing world, extending experiences and know-how from years of WSBK activity to those devoted to competition training, trackday riding and racing for fun.  All this in a rewarding package focused on performance lasting over multiple weekends, consistency throughout sessions and easy set up.

Compared to Pirelli’s Diablo Superbike SC tyres, the PRO’s more flexible carcass, higher duration compounds, a new structure derived from the hypersport range and 17” sizes with similar profiles, the Diablo Superbike PRO works perfectly even with a stock chassis and suspension.  Riders need not adjust their bike’s suspension to compensate for the typical movement of professional soft racing compounds, nor make the 16.5 inch wheel conversion typical of full professional setups.

With a development firmly rooted in the Superbike World Championship, the Diablo Superbike PRO is painted with technology gathered from six years of experience as sole Official Tyre Supplier for the seven manufacturers and nearly 40 professional riders who set multiple track records over a dozen race weekends.  However, today’s demand for more economical solutions from those passionate about on-track riding has altered the slick tyre scenario, since the semi-professional slick riding experience is now sought out by club racers for training as well as enthusiasts just for pure trackday fun.  New requirements are now centered on performance lasting: using the same tyres over many weekends, a resistance to frequent entrances / exits from the pit, easy bike set up and pure fun in every condition.  Pirelli has widened its racing tyre range to fulfill the needs of this new market, in addition to meeting the traditional requirements of extreme performance.

Compound with Extraordinary Grip that Lasts

The Diablo Superbike PRO provides more grip at lower operating temperatures than other professional slick tyres, a benefit all riders can appreciate when they reach the tyres’ performance peak without tyre warmers and feel their super-sticky grip just after a few laps. This advantage comes from a compound derived by an innovative production process and the use of the latest generation polymers, a formula specifically dedicated to competition preparation and long lasting trackday riding. Specific chemicals and reinforcing elements contribute to attaining the ideal material stiffness, an element aiding in the resistance of heat cycles; its chemical composition remains unchanged throughout multiple track sessions and can endure numerous entrances / exits from the pit.

The PRO compound’s lower operating temperature, often encountered on the first laps on track, benefits riders with quicker tyre warm-up and improved compound flexibility, reducing the tendency to cold-tear.  Its immediate grip response avoids unnecessary tyre spin and thus better wear. At high tyre temperatures the PRO compound is characterized by a lower thermo-plasticity; a compound stiffness offering a reduced abrasion and thus improved wear, along with an increased capability to bear mechanical and thermo stresses, thus tyre behavior is predictable both in extreme and mild riding.

Structurally Sound

The Diablo Superbike PRO is characterized by an extremely versatile structure that adapts easily to a ‘stock’ motorcycle setup and combined with its higher duration compound guarantees maximum performances throughout more track sessions. Inside the carcass is Pirelli’s patented 0° steel belt, the backbone solution of Pirelli’s entire Diablo range of racing and supersport street products. The profile of the tyre is amazing in the corners, with massive grip at super high lean angles without the need to compensate for geometry change or install aftermarket products to properly fit the tyre in the swing-arm.
The carcass’s enhanced flexibility ensures higher dampening properties to better match the long lasting compound. As a result, the tyre is very stable and handles in a uniform manner; it is very balanced in corners and stable under braking. The PRO structure is developed to control the overall tyre temperature with a consequent reduction of wear throughout all tyre components, resulting in not only longer life but more consistency of performance. The profile of the new Diablo Superbike PRO is a duplicate of the SC version which properly distributes all stresses incurred by the contact patch area, thus enlarging the footprint area to transmit fully the available horsepower to the ground.
The slick tread design avoids all potential wear triggers, specifically in colder conditions, and improves the riding feeling versus standard racing DOT tyres. Diablo Superbike PRO is therefore the perfect combination of a racing profile, hyper-sport structure and a new generation of long lasting compound to deliver great braking stability and precise cornering, confidence at lean angles all the way to the maximum and optimal trajectory for the highest corner exit speeds.

High Performance at a Lower Cost

The real 100% potential of true professional slick tyres can be exploited only with a professional bike set up which can include special modifications (including a professional suspension system). This demands a high level of technical knowledge and can very often be extremely costly, which is not convenient for a typical racing for fun or trackday user. Therefore, Diablo Superbike PRO is designed to reach the maximum performance level of a stock bike with lasting performance and compared to racing DOT solutions of the same size and under the same conditions, will raise grip and feeling to an incredible level.
Diablo Superbike PRO is the ideal solution for club racers preparing for competition and racing for fun users looking for long lasting trackday enjoyment. It is easily recognized by a red stripe which is printed on the tyre and for its red “PRO” marking on the sidewall. Diablo Superbike PRO is not homologated for street usage (NHS – not for highway service) and is available in original equipment homologated 17” sizes for the front: 120/70R17; and rear: 180/55R17 and 190/55R17, so there is no need to adjust geometry, swing-arm length or gearing to be able to fit them, just mount them and go!

For tyre pricing of the Diablo Superbike PRO, please consult your local Pirelli motorcycle tyre dealer.  More information regarding Pirelli’s entire range of racing tyres can be found on www.pirelli.com.

METZELER SPORTEC M5

With the new Sportec M5 Interact, the premium German brand opens a new chapter in motorcycle tire construction: an innovative 5 zone tension technology inside brings a custom-tailored grip level, excellent handling and confident stability at every lean angle demanded in any driving condition.

This technology, along with Greek “Pi”-inspired tread grooves specifically placed for maximizing tire flexibility and new high-silica compounds for supreme dry grip and wet confidence, elevates the Sportec M5 Interact as the ideal tire for all sport bikes and naked bikes, from its high performance capabilities to its clean all-round look.

Following the sport-touring Roadtec Z6 Interact and the racing-oriented Racetec Interact, comes the new Sportec M5 Interact, the perfect all-round supersport tire from Metzeler boasting innovative Interact Technology.
This all-encompassing approach to development perfectly matches the tire’s structure, 0°-steel belt, tread design and compounds for a combination of high performance even in wet conditions, rideability and wear uniformity.

Interact: 5 Zones Tension Technology

Metzeler engineers answered the most diverse requirements of the supersport segment with a new stage of development on the tensions of the tire’s steel-belt: The new Sportec M5 Interact boasts five well-defined zones over the entire contour of the tire, achieving always the best grip lean for each angle, stability and constant feedback.

This diagram shows the different tension and grip zones of the Metzeler Sportec M5 Tire. Interact technology is a precise tuning of the high-tech steel belt winding tensions combined with a perfectly matched carcass, without the discontinuity experienced by alternative multi-compound products. With this new structure, Metzeler engineers also succeeded in optimizing the total area of the tire footprint at every lean angle with up to an 8% increase, while improving also its shape and pressure distribution. This success is felt in every situation: with an increased stability in a straight line, better contact feel at the central part of the curve and safe grip at full lean.

The tread pattern of the new Sportec M5 Interact is the result of an extensive series of tests to achieve high effectiveness in dry (stability) and wet (drainage) conditions, but also provides an increased life for the tire.

The registered design of the Sportec M5 Interact tire tread resembles the Greek letter "Pi", a component to the formula of a perfect circle. The shape and distribution the tread grooves contributes to the overall performance of the Sportec M5 Interact with very effective water drainage as well as a superb flexibility. This increased flexibility complements the Interact-based tire structure in maintaining an optimized contact area to avoid slippage which positively affects wear uniformity and thus mileage.

High Silica Mixture

The two newly developed tread compounds of the Sportec M5, unique between front and rear, seamlessly partner with the Interact structure. Derived from a completely new mixing procedure and produced with a larger percentage of silica, they bring top-of-segment adhesion on dry land as well as uncompromising confidence in wet conditions, still keeping a rapid warm-up time for a maximum supersport grip level right from the first pull of the throttle.

Lean Indicator

An additional motorcycle tire first comes from the Sportec M5’s new lean indicator which offers riders visual confirmation of the maximum level of the tire’s usage: riders can verify which of the 5-stage markings were contacted while riding. The five lean indicator markings are placed on the shoulder of the rear tire where the profile meets the road surface at angles of approximately 25°, 30°, 35°, 40° and 45° (depending on vehicle weight and tire pressure).

The new Sportec M5 Interact will be available starting from the 1st of February, 2010

in front size: 120/70ZR17; as well as three rear sizes: 180/55ZR17, 190/50ZR17 and 190/55ZR17, and shall gradually replace its successful predecessor, the Sportec M3.

Front size 120/60ZR17 and rear size 160/60ZR17 will follow in April 2010.

DUNLOP GP RACER D211: WORLD-BEATING RACE TYRE HITS THE STREET

DUNLOP GP RACER D211: WORLD-BEATING RACE TYRE HITS THE STREET

A legend even before its launch, the GP Racer D211 track day/road tyre looks certain to establish itself as the new benchmark in performance tyres. Based on the D211 GP – Dunlop’s race tyre that has consistently won at every level of world motorsport since its launch – the GP Racer D211 delivers true race-developed technologies to the consumer.

Technologies like Multi-Tread compound design, which delivers superior grip, high stability, rich, precise feedback; Jointless Belt (JLB) construction for high speed comfort and stability; and the revolutionary NTEC system which provides pressure tuning options designed to satisfy the most hard-core track day fan as much as the pure sports rider – simply inflate to the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended pressure for road use and deflate for increased grip on dry tracks, without compromising the all-important stiffness of the tyre.
All these technologies come together to give the GP Racer D211 its ability to convert formidable race performance into supple, dependable road performance.

“The story of the GP Racer D211 tyre is a great example of our product development strategy in action,” says Sharon Antonaros, Dunlop’s European Sales and Marketing Director.

“Our plan was to create an unbeatable race tyre which we would then go on to develop into an equally excellent product for our track day customers. Both objectives have been achieved.

“The D211 GP race tyre exceeded all our expectations. It’s very rare for one tyre to become so utterly dominant in motorsport. As a result of its success, there’s been a huge amount of anticipation leading up to the release of the road-going GP Racer D211 version and we’ve had a lot of pressure from our dealer network to get it into their stores as quickly as possible.

“When our European customers get the chance to try the GP Racer D211, we’re totally confident that they will not only be able to feel the difference on the road, they’ll be able to measure that difference at the track.”
The GP Racer D211 is available in a choice of three compounds: Soft (S) has been developed for maximum performance over 20-25 lap distances; Medium (M) compound is optimised for 35-40 laps; Endurance (E) for 65-70 laps.

“Today’s superbikes generate acceleration and braking forces that are almost as extreme as those experienced by race bikes, says Dunlop’s Motorcycle Motorsport  Manager Stephen Male. “That’s why we’ve fed every bit of racetrack technology and knowledge we’ve got into the GP Racer D211 programme and tested the tyre on circuits like Phillip Island, Magny Cours and Jerez to make sure that the compounds would meet the different needs.”
Emmanuel Robinet, Development Director for Motorsport and Motorcycle, explains, “We achieved excellent straight-line stability and cooler running by overlaying the radial-construction nylon carcass with nylon breaker belts and a continuously wound aramid-fibre tread belt to eliminate circumferential growth. By varying the angle of the breaker belts to the carcass ply, and to each other, we’ve been able to control sidewall and tread stiffness. That’s given us a really high degree of tread-edge stability for confidence when transitioning high-speed corners.

“The thing we’re most proud of is the fact that this tyre delivers an optimum combination of feedback, grip and stability whether it’s working under extreme track conditions or in the less pressured – but still highly demanding – street environment.”
Dunlop tyre designers are routinely tasked to transfer race-proven technology into the supersport market as quickly as possible. In the new GP Racer D211 track day/road tyre, they have more than fulfilled that imperative – and answered every supersport rider’s dream at the same time.
For these reasons, the Dunlop GP Racer D211 launch date will be an eagerly awaited day in the 2010 motorcycling calendar.

The GP Racer D211 will be available in both slick and treaded versions in the following sizes:

Sizes                                       Compounds

120/70 ZR 17                        Soft, Medium, Endurance
160/60 ZR 17                        Endurance
180/55 ZR17                        Soft, Medium, Endurance
190/55 ZR17                        Soft, Medium, Endurance
200/55 ZR 17                       Soft, Medium, Endurance

GP Racer D211 key points:
• Multi-Tread (MT) compound guarantees rapid warm-up, high stability under braking and totally focused feedback in all conditions
• NTEC construction allows rider to tune tyre by adjusting pressure: inflate to manufacturer’s recommended pressure for road use, deflate for dry tracks
• Belt-to-carcass angles are engineered to stabilise sidewalls for smooth, responsive transitions between maximum lean angles
• Nylon breaker belts and continuously-wound aramid-fibre tread belt eliminate circumferential growth for cooler running and predictable performance under heavy use
• Jointless Belt (JLB) technology for high speed stability and maximum shock absorption

PIRELLI INTRODUCES NEW DIABLO ROSSO CORSA SPORT TIRE AT MILAN EICMA SHOW

The latest sport motorcycle tire from Pirelli intended to span both street and track usage As Pirelli gains more knowledge and experience as the spec tire manufacturer for the World Superbike Championship, that technology continues to trickle down to its street-oriented production rubber for sale to the general public. The latest example of that racing development is the company’s new Diablo Rosso Corsa tire that was unveiled at the Milan EICMA show. Intended as a replacement for the Diablo Corsa III tire that debuted back in ‘06, the new Diablo Rosso Corsa is said to exceed its predecessor’s performance in key areas such as overall mileage and grip in both dry and wet conditions. The new Pirelli is credited with three design patents, the foremost being Enhanced Patch Technology (EPT), derived from the company’s extensive WSBK experience for an optimized contact patch area at all lean angles on road and track, providing rider confidence and effective power transfer to the ground in any riding condition. EPT is complemented by the “III zones compound” rear tire, with a new compound in the middle section offering better mileage; ample shoulder zone compound is straight from the WSBK arena. The Diablo Rosso Corsa’s tread pattern includes a slick-like area on the rear shoulders while the tread grooves are selectively concentrated in the centre and shoulders. The aggressive tread design results in quick warm-up and consistent water drainage for great control on wet surfaces. The Diablo Rosso Corsa will be available on the European market starting in January 2010, with initial sizing beginning with: front 120/70ZR17, along with rear 160/60ZR17 (April 2010), 180/55ZR17, and 190/50ZR17 as well as the 190/55ZR17 size.

TEST - MOTORCYCLE SPORT TYRES 2009
06.06.2009

CONTINENTAL SPORT ATTACK
120/70ZR17  /  190/50ZR17

DUNLOP SPORTMAX QUALIFIER 2
120/70ZR17 / 190/50ZR17

Motorradreifen: DUNLOPFazit: Eine erfolgreiche Evolution.

   AVON VP2 - SPORT AV59 / AV60 - SUPERSPORT AV59 / AV60 - XTREME AV61 / AV62
12.02.2009

Motorradreifen: AVONAvon Tyres, a top quality brand of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, introduces its exciting new range of sports motorcycle tyres, the VP2.
With Avon’s enhanced construction methods and its debut use of multi-compound rubber construction, VP2 looks certain to continue the successes of the acclaimed Viper range.

To cater to the demands of today’s multi-discipline riders and the vast array of performance machines available, both new and used, VP2 is offered in three different types; Sport, Supersport and Xtreme, all in a variety of popular fitments.
Though individually characterised by their own performance criteria and capabilities, the VP2 family shares the same key underlying aims; to allow riders to get exactly what they want from their machines.

Aside from many technical advances, VP2 also benefits heavily from Avon’s most rigorous motorcycle tyre testing programme to date.
In order to stay one step ahead of the relentless pace at which modern motorcycles progress, and to meet the demanding criteria for the new range, the dedicated development team applied tens of thousands of miles of testing on road and track in all conditions, as well as applying meticulous laboratory research.
From high speed stability, enhanced durability and dependable high levels of grip on the road right through to the precise rider feedback, quick steering and consistency needed for the race track - VP2 delivers.

Technologies
Though proudly boasting innovations, many of the features that collectively helped to make the outgoing Viper range such a trusted and capable tyre have been enhanced to new lengths with VP2.

Underneath VP2’s tread is Avon’s most advanced belt system yet - Hybrid Belt, which consists of strands of aramid and steel or steel of differing tensions wound together around the tyre to form a unique belt system. The ultra strong aramid fibres produce exceptional high speed stability which is complimented by the flexibility and natural spring properties of steel that translates into exceptional mechanical grip.

VP2 Sport features Avon’s first use of multiple compound construction on a motorcycle tyre.
With Sport aimed at the all-year round sports rider, the merits of using a multi-compound construction allows this tyre to excel at dealing with a huge variety of machines, ridden in many disciplines and through wet and dry conditions.
This performance was achieved by Avon’s new TE (Tri-compound Extrusion) construction system that produces a durable medium compound in the centre of the tyre for improved mileage returns. The seldom used edge of the tyre receives a soft compound to deliver high levels of grip, even from cold, when suddenly required from higher lean angles.

The third compound comes courtesy of a very soft, low hysteresis compound across the entire base of the tread. Under such incredible forces from modern performance machines, this helps to improve the bond between the other two compounds and the carcass.
All of the VP2 range benefits from Avon’s A-VBD (Advanced-Variable Belt Density); a construction technique, specifically for rear tyres, that builds in a multi-compound characteristic into the rubber compound.

A-VBD works by the frequency in which the jointless Hybrid Belt is wrapped around the tyres’ circumference. For stability and durability, the cables are wound closely in the centre but are then specifically spaced out toward the tyres’ shoulder to build in a certain degree of flex, giving a larger contract patch at higher angles of lean and consequently a softer feel.
Despite the host of technical improvements made with VP2, the soul of the original Viper remains within the new range.

Forces transmitted to the surface of the tyre have changed very little during that time. Avon’s development team rigorously carried out tests with new tread designs forVP2, but it was proven that the original aggressive surface pattern utilised by Viper was unsurpassed; producing even tyre wear, aiding fast warm-up and providing excellent water displacement, especially onVP2 Sport and Supersport.

VP2 Sport - For everyday performance road riding

The everyday road riders’ high performance tyre. VP2 Sport features Avon’s first multi-compound construction with the addition of high amounts of silica to give increased grip - in wet and dry conditions.

Avon’s TE (Tri-compound Extrusion) construction system produces a durable medium compound in the centre of the tyre for improved mileage returns. The benefits of Avon’s A-VBD (Advanced Variable Belt Density) system, specifically for rear tyres, is then doubled as VP2 Sport also receives a separate soft compound on the edge of the tyre to deliver high levels of grip, even from cold, when suddenly required from higher lean angles.

The third compound comes courtesy of a very soft, low hysteresis compound across the entire base of the tread. Under such incredible forces from modern performance machines, this helps to improve the bond between the other two compounds and the carcass.

Avon’s Hybrid Belt system, combined with other advanced construction features, creates an intelligent tyre with a contact patch that grows with increased lean angle and offers precise handling characteristics and consistent stability throughout the tyre’s life.

Superb performance on the road – in wet and dry conditions
Multiple compound tread
Precise handling characteristics
Carcass designed for excellent stability
Stable at speed - throughout the tyre’s life
Can also be used for track days

VP2 Supersport – Equally at home on the track and on the road

Visually identical to VP2 Sport and sharing many of the same technical features, Supersport advances by giving riders the ability to push to the next performance level to get the very best from supersport machinery.

Designed to work better with harder use, VP2 Supersport has an increased focus on maximum grip. The need for dual compound technologies is negated by utilising a race derived soft compound throughout the tyre.

Like the entire VP2 range, Supersport utilises Avon’s ES System (Enhanced Stability System) so that the stresses absorbed by the carcass, sidewall and tread pattern are distributed evenly, reducing localised flexing within the tyre’s structure. The result is an increase in grip and stability while at the same time reducing tread wear.

With LPE (Lifetime Profile Engineering) and ATAC-TA Tread Profile (Advanced Tread Arc Combination – Tri Arc), VP2 Supersport will work harder for longer as the tread profile is varied across the tyre for enhanced handling and stability, even at  increased lean angles, along with consistent handling and stability for the full life of the tyre.

Superb performance on the road
Ideal for track work
Carcass designed for stability and rider feedback
Race type compound formula for high levels of grip
Consistently stable

VP2 Xtreme – Pure performance road legal track tyre

Developed exclusively on race tracks, VP2 Xtreme is uncompromising in its pursuit of ultimate dry grip and optimum high speed performance for riders who enjoy exploiting the very best from supersport machines regularly on track.

VP2 Xtreme utilises a super sticky race compound with a special high molecular weight polymer designed to reach its operating temperature fast, ideal for track days.

Avon’s Hybrid Belt, featuring the use of steel and aramid strands in a tyres’ construction, has vastly improved all important rider feel and, consequently, lap times.

The focus on dry use allows VP2 Xtreme to feature a surface pattern with fewer grooves that are further apart and concentrated in the centre ‘third’ of the tyre. This minimal tread also enhances grip as more rubber is in constant contact with the track.

Without a focus on sprint racing, Avon’s designers were able to implement enhanced durability into Xtreme; a rarity for a tyre with such high performance parameters and allowing riders to go faster for longer.

Recommended for track day use
Super-sticky compound for optimum dry use performance
Reaches optimum working temperatures quickly
Large footprint at extreme lean angles
Increased Stability at high speed and under hard braking
Track tuned profiles provide composed turning characteristics.
